Richard Riehl is a freelance writer whose biweekly column, The Riehl World, appears in San Diego’s North County Times, a regional newspaper with a daily circulation of 95,000. He began his writing career following thirty years as a university administrator in admissions and enrollment services at Western Washington University, Indiana State University and California State University San Marcos. His special interest was in international education, which took him on research assignments to the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Canada’s Maritime Provinces.

His avocations include theatre and music. He’s played leading roles in a number of community theatre productions, including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Chapter Two, You Can’t Take It With You and Same Time Next Year. He plays folk guitar and banjo and has been patiently awaiting the return of the hootenanny.

He first became interested in politics in his sophomore year in high school when he was appointed chairman of the local Youth For Kennedy campaign.

He lives in Carlsbad, California with his novelist and children’s playwright wife Karen and their eleven-year-old toy poodle Olivia.
