Sandra Thompson works as a patent attorney in Irvine, California specializing in the fields of semiconductors, electronics, chemicals and chemical intermediates, waste/sludge management and conversion, "green" chemistry, fibers, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, computer software and telecommunications. Her experience extends into the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, semiconductor materials, electronic materials and plasma physics. She received her B.S. in 1990 as well as her M.A. in 1991 from the College of William & Mary. Dr. Thompson earned her J.D. in 1998 from Campbell University, Norman Wiggins School of Law. She also received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Department of Chemistry at North Carolina State University. Her dissertation is entitled "Control of Volatile Organic Compounds with a Pulsed Corona Discharge." As a doctoral candidate, Dr. Thompson worked at both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Research Triangle Institute in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
She is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, where she was Chair of the Intellectual Property Section. She is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the California State Bar, the American Chemical Society, and the Society of Applied Spectroscopy. Dr. Thompson is the Chair of the Chemistry and The Law Division of the American Chemical Society and the Chair-Elect of the Orange County Section of the American Chemical Society.
Dr. Thompson is active in the community, as well as representing several non-profit corporations and groups. Dr. Thompson works with Delta Gamma Fraternity, Delta Gamma Foundation and Southern California Siamese Rescue. Dr. Thompson is president of the Delta Gamma House Corporation at the University of California - Irvine, as well as being active in the Junior League of Orange County. She is an avid baseball fan - both of the Los Angeles Angels and her three rotisserie baseball teams.
